Microsoft Authenticator App is a secure device application that helps protect your account with multi-factor authentication.
1. Install the Microsoft Authenticator App from the App Store or Google Play and open the App
2. Tap Add Account, choose Work or School Account
3. Scan the QR Code on the site or choose Manual Entry
4. When signing in, Approve Notifications in the App or Enter the 6-Digit Code shown
5. Enable Cloud Backup in the App settings to make recovery easier

Step 1: Installing the App
Open the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (android) from your personal device
Search for Microsoft Authenticator
Tap Get/Install
Step 2: Opening the App
Once the download has finished installing, open Microsoft Authenticator
Press Allow Notifications, if prompted, and Accept Terms
If prompted, Enable Device Lock (PIN, fingerprint, Face ID) to protect your stored account information
Step 3: Adding your Account (2 Methods)
Method 1 - QR Code (recommended)
Tap on the + sign or Add account
Choose Work or school account
On your computer, sign in to your Microsoft account (this will be the same account you use to log into your work email (i.e. firstname.lastname@mpioilfield.com)) and go to Security Settings
Click Add method
Click Authenticator App, then Next
A QR Code will appear on you computer screen
Use the app on your phone to scan the QR Code. Your account will be automatically added once the QR code is read by the authenticator app.
You will see a 6-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds.
Method 2 - Manually (no camera or QR)
When on the service setup page on your computer, choose Set up an Authenticator App, then Can't scan? or Manual Setup
The page will then show a secret key
In the authenticator app, tap + sign, then Other Account
Choose Enter Code Manually
Enter your account name and the secret key
Press Save - the app will now create a rotating code for you
Step 4: Confirming Account
After scanning, Microsoft Authenticator App will ask you to approve a test sign-in
Tap Approve
Your account will now be added.
Using the App to Sign In
Push Approval
When signing in on the website or service you are using, you will receive a notification from Microsoft Authenticator App on your phone
Tap the notification and verify the sign-in request details (account name, location, time)
Tap Approve to complete the sign in
Verification Code using TOTP
On the sign in prompt that asks for your authenticator code, open the Microsoft Authenticator App
Find the account
Enter the 6-digit code - this code will refresh every 30 seconds so make sure to type it in quickly
If using for a non-Microsoft service, you will be asked for the 6-digit code from your Authenticator App - follow the same steps as Verification Code using TOTP above
